In the words of Grade 11 Ecole Ducharme student Bailee Johnson, “no one really likes to look at garbage on the street.”
“(We want to) get everyone involved and let them know the importance of cleaning up your community and having pride in your community,” she said.
“Nobody likes to see garbage lying on the ground,” added Grade 11 Vanier Collegiate student Zach Owens.
On Tuesday, Mayor Deb Higgins declared May as Pick it Up Month. Pick it Up Month is a partnership between Beautif-i Moose Jaw, AXIS Youth, youth advisory committee members, businesses of Moose Jaw, the second annual Schools Global Warning Art initiative and the City of Moose Jaw. Owens and Johnson are members of the youth advisory committee (YAC).
