Moose Jaw Times-Herald: Lisa's Corner: The road of poetry

By Lisa Goudy
This week, I attended a Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild poetry reading and, to my delight, the parking lot at Government House was full.
The reading, which featured Saskatchewan poet laureate Gerald Hill as well as Katherine Lawrence and Alice Major, was a great event. Apart from the fantastic readings, the number of people present for a poetry reading also impressed me. After all, April is National Poetry Month.
I have been, and always shall be, a big fan of the arts. I believe everyone should get out and support the arts. You’ll experience a broad range of creativity channeled through people’s work.
There are arguably other benefits as well. Art historian Jonathan Fineberg said in an interview with Boston’s NPR News Station that seeing art is “is inherently a very creative act, and you’re constantly revising what you think you see… Less than 20 percent of what we see actually comes from the eye.”
