Moose Jaw Times-Herald: Baseball club asks city to waive rental fee

Council denies Moose Jaw Padres Baseball Club's request

The Moose Jaw Padres Baseball Club didn't want to pay the rental fees for their use of the Blackwell Diamond.

The club recently hosted the Senior Men's Saskatchewan Baseball Association (SBA) Provincial Championships in Moose Jaw on Aug. 1 and 2 featuring six teams from around the province. The club used Ross Wells Park and the Blackwell Diamond on 13th Avenue Northwest.

In a letter addressed to the city, it estimated the rental fees of the Blackwell diamond at $416 plus taxes.

The club didn't request to have the fees waived for their use of Ross Wells Park because, the letter said, "we understand the unique relationship that Ross Wells has with the city and also that Ross Wells needs all the income it can get. Many of us were fortunate to grow up playing and watching baseball in Ross Wells and cherish the facility. We also still utilize the facility for our team's home games when cheaper options do exist."
