Councillors haven't formally approved the 2016 capital budget yet, but the engineering department requested early approval for $5.65 million in specific projects.
"This approval's required for time sensitive projects that require an early completion date," said Colin Prang, manager of engineering with the city.
"One of the things we made a conscious effort to do here was to just focus in on the projects that are priority and not try and compromise the budget process," added Josh Mickleborough, director of engineering.
