With one councillor absent, budget committee has tie vote in budget finalization

After seven budget committee meetings, the final motion to approve the finalized 2016 budgets was defeated.

"We were missing a couple of people tonight, which probably wasn't the best time to have a meeting," said Mayor Deb Higgins after the meeting, adding that Brian Acker, director of finance, was absent and Coun. Don Mitchell was away because he was ill.

"Put it this way. This is one budget where we cannot complain about administration being too slow in bringing it forward to council. This is 100 per cent council's fault for not having this approved and moved forward and that's something that we need to wear as a council."
