Kandis Simmons lost her husband, Kevin Molloy, to suicide three years ago.
“My husband had schizophrenia. He didn’t even go to
grocery stores,” she said. “He couldn’t come out. He came out at night …
You couldn’t get a counselor to come in and see him because they all
work out of offices. So you (need to) try and change the way it’s done
to reach the ones that can’t seem to get out and get the help they
need.”
Simmons was one of many participants in the sixth
annual Journey to Hope on Saturday in Crescent Park in support of
suicide prevention and awareness.
