Moose Jaw Times-Herald: Tackling tax returns

The main deadline to file income tax returns is April 30.

It’s time to get taxes in order.

“April 30 is the main deadline for everybody … You have until June 15 to file if you’re self-employed, but if you owe tax, the tax needs to be paid by April 30,” said Mike Biette, CPA, CMA and owner of local broker TaxTeam Tax Specialists. “If you owe tax and you file late, they also charge you a late filing penalty. So they charge you a conditional penalty for filing your taxes late if you owe.

“If you’re self-employed and you file by June 15, you don’t get that extra penalty. You just owe interest on the amount due.”
