Moose Jaw Times-Herald: Lisa's Corner: Perspective can help us garner empathy

Sometimes we could all use some perspective.

It is impossible for anyone to know exactly what it’s like for someone else in his or her specific situation. We can’t know exactly what a person has gone through, is going through or will go through.

I think we need to recognize we have our differences and our experiences are uniquely ours by way of what happens or by how we choose to react to what happens.

While we can never truly know, perspective can help us try and understand and empathize with other people. For a lot of negative associations with someone’s situation, I believe we will be enlightened if we ourselves have experienced that.

For example unless we have experienced the kind of flooding such as in Alberta, we cannot possibly imagine what that’s like to lose everything because of a natural disaster.
