It was 10:45 p.m. on Saturday when local resident Inez White saw nine light orbs in the sky.
“I was just getting ready for bed. So I looked
out the window and I saw all these lights in the sky and they were like
a football
field apart or maybe a little bit more,” she said. “They were all
yellow and kind of orange and they were going not at a really
fast speed but kind of in unison …. It was just the strangest
thing I’ve ever seen.”
She added the orbs moved from east to west and
turned north before disappearing. White, who lives in the complex at
the end
of Wolfe Avenue, said at first she saw six of them but then more
came. She said it wasn’t a plane because there weren’t any
red or green flashing lights visible.

Moose Jaw Times-Herald: West Nile risk to increase by mid-July

Mosquitoes are out again, but so far nothing’s tested positive for West Nile virus.
“It’s somewhat of a guessing game (on the risk) until we start seeing positive mosquitoes,” said Dr. Mark Vooght, medical officer for the Five Hills Health Region. “Right now everyone is fully aware there are a lot of nuisance mosquitoes around, mosquitoes other than Culex tarsalis which is the most efficient at transmitting the West Nile virus organism to humans.”
He said the Culex tarsalis mosquitoes will feed more regularly and lay more eggs when the weather is hotter. He said those mosquitoes require the "right amount of heat” to thrive.

Moose Jaw Times-Herald: Lisa's Corner: Perspective can help us garner empathy

Sometimes we could all use some perspective.
It is impossible for anyone to know exactly what it’s like for someone else in his or her specific situation. We can’t know exactly what a person has gone through, is going through or will go through.
I think we need to recognize we have our differences and our experiences are uniquely ours by way of what happens or by how we choose to react to what happens.
While we can never truly know, perspective can help us try and understand and empathize with other people. For a lot of negative associations with someone’s situation, I believe we will be enlightened if we ourselves have experienced that.
For example unless we have experienced the kind of flooding such as in Alberta, we cannot possibly imagine what that’s like to lose everything because of a natural disaster.

In the 35th
update on the multiplex there were no changes from last month.
Director
of parks and recreation Jody Hauta presented the report to council at Monday’s
meeting. He said the close out procedures are still underway at Mosaic Place
and YaraCentre within the approved budget of approximately $61.29 million. A
total of $281,492 is in the project contingency, same as last month.
Other
items discussed at Monday’s meeting:
• Council approved two decisions of the
development appeals board for Robinson Contracting Ltd. to have variances on
two properties on the 100 block of Everton Cres.
• Council approved the reports of the recent
meetings of the personnel committee on June 12, 13 and 18.

Executive committee of city council granted Alvin Hunter’s request to put the lot up for tender and make it available for purchase at Monday’s meeting. Hunter had put in his request with the business development division, who told him the city wasn’t interested in selling this lot because it is located six meters from railway tracks.
However he decided to appeal the city’s decision and Myron Gulka-Tiechko, city clerk/solicitor, informed him why the city is opposed to selling the lot but that he was entitled to attend a council meeting.
