Mayor says biggest reason is to encourage more people to
ride the bus

Effective July 1, parking meter rates are going up and
transit rates are going down.
“The changes are taking place to encourage people to take
public transit,” said Mayor Fraser Tolmie. “I will actually be doing it myself.
We’re a one-car family and I’ve checked out the bus schedules and I’m going to
be trying to take public transit myself on days that I have very few meetings
that are out of the office.”
Tolmie used to ride the bus when living in the United
Kingdom and his father was a bus driver in Hamilton, Ont.
