Dan Railton knew Jason Mercer as the man who coached his son in hockey for a few years.
"Then I assisted a little bit last year with the team and then I took a more active role this year and coached against him and we would talk to each other," he said. "He was awesome, a phenomenal dude."
Railton, who coaches the Atom A Tigers, and Nicole Railton, Derrick and Crystal Cameron and Kevin Ogle got together to organize a bottle drive this past weekend for the family of Mercer, an 18-year veteran of the Moose Jaw Police Service who died suddenly on March 23.
