David Phillips recognizes that the Prairies are, and will continue to be, a good place to grow oats.

"For oats, I think clearly the future is bright," said Phillips, who has been a senior climatologist with Environment Canada for 45 years. "You have the favourable soils, day length and, of course, being able to plant the crop earlier."

Phillips was one of the keynote speakers at the Prairie Oat Growers Association (POGA)'s 18th annual conference at the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa in Moose Jaw on Thursday that featured local, provincial, national and international attendees.
