Local teacher nominated for arts award

A Moose Jaw teacher is up for a big award.
Debbie Burgher, a teacher at Vanier Collegiate is one of the 21 nominees short-listed for Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Awards.
Burgher is nominated in the arts and learning category and is the only Moose Jaw nominee out of the six categories.
“I’m honoured beyond words,” said Burgher. “I hope in the process of all of it to bring some recognition to the extra work
that teachers do. Sometimes I think that, although appreciated, people don’t understand that it is extra.
“It is all volunteer work that we do with students and that’s kind of what I’m hoping to shine a little light (on).”
