Learning to swim is an essential skill.

“It’s one of those life skills I think everybody needs certainly in this province. We’re considered a prairie province and we often think of those fields and fields of crops but we really have a high percentage of open water in Saskatchewan,” said Shelly Howe, recreation program supervisor at the Kinsmen Sportsplex. “Our goal is for everyone who comes to swimming lessons to have a safe and fun experience.”

She said in addition to knowing how to swim, people need to know water safety to make good choices around water. Those water sites include outdoor campgrounds, lakes, pools or paddling pools.
