Scarlet Johansson made history last week.
As
of last week, Johansson is one of the Top 10 highest grossing actors. This is the first time a woman has ever
entered the Top 10. Johansson has starred in many films, most prominently in
five Marvel Studios’ blockbusters as Black Widow. There is no doubt in my
mind that this is what helped her make this list that includes names such as
Robert Downey Jr., Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp. She’s also the youngest actor of
any gender to appear in the Top 30 of the list, which is available on the Box
Office Mojo website.
For me, the biggest reason why this news is
important is the step it makes in the direction of equality. She has broken a
ceiling in terms of wages. Unfortunately, though, the wage gap is still very
much an issue in 2016, even here in Canada, and it needs to be addressed.
