Two males were arrested and charged related to several vehicle thefts early Friday morning in the Kensington Greens neighbourhood.

Cody Michael Gordon, 19, and a 14-year-old male, whose name cannot be released based on the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are facing charges of theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property, according to a news release from Regina Police Service. Gordon is also charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

The incident occurred at 3:51 a.m. Friday when police received a call from the 300 block of Rodenbush Drive reporting three males trying door handles on vehicles on the street with suspicious behaviour. Descriptions were provided of two of the three suspects and the 14-year-old was arrested on the scene.

The other two fled on foot. Within minutes, Gordon was found hiding in some bushes in a yard one block away by a canine-unit officer and a dog. The third associate has not been apprehended.

Regina Police Service spokeswoman Elizabeth Popowich said the police believe they've identified the suspect, but he hasn't been taken into custody yet.

Both males arrested matched the descriptions from the caller.

Popowich added police believe some of the vehicles on the street were not locked, which is a continuing problem in Regina.

"We have also in fact done a bit of an ad campaign through Facebook and Twitter and on our website that urges Regina residents to lock it or risk losing it," said Popowich. "I know sometimes people think that it's better to leave a vehicle unlocked rather than have a window broken, but the fact it that if you leave the vehicle unlocked, anything inside the vehicle could be stolen."
