Smoke the cat is a neighbourhood hero.
On July 30 around 8 p.m., Robert and Marie Tycquet saw the house fire on the 500 block of Stadacona Street West, two doors down from where they live.
The lone occupant of the home escaped the house fire, which the Moose Jaw Police Service later determined was caused from a lit cigarette left on a mattress. Within an hour, the Moose Jaw Fire Department put out the fire.
"We talked to the owner. She said she didn't know whether or not her cat got out," said Robert. "A little after 2 a.m., Marie decided she had to go over there and check on the cat, to see if the cat came back."
