It’s fairly uncommon to see a Gypsy Vanner horse in Canada.
“It’s incredibly rare. It was imported from England,” said Jackie Johnson, a rider and owner of Gypsy Vanner horses. “There aren’t that many in the country. So although it’s an old breed in Europe, it’s just establishing itself here in Canada.”
This weekend, however, it will be easy to find those horses by heading to the Golden Mile Arena at the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds for the newly formed Saskatchewan Gypsy Vanner Horse Association’s showcase.
