Weeks earmarked with a certain purpose are often brought to our attention.
This week, for example, was Aboriginal Awareness
Week and many events took place in Caronport to mark the week. This
year's
theme was 'Your part in reconciliation.' This is a vital topic to
discuss about so we can all understand each other and find
ways to join hands to create a unified, strong future.
I think it's great that there are days or weeks or months to bring certain issues to the forefront of our minds and to celebrate
what we have achieved and to look to what we have yet to accomplish.
But I also dream of a day we don't have to place
extra emphasis on these types of things for a day or a week or a month
because
it's just part of everyday life. The same goes for Black History
Month, International Women's Day and anything else you can
think of.
