Isaiah Tootoosis’ favourite part about filming ‘The Revenant’ was a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio put him to sleep.

“It was awesome,” said Isaiah, 8, from Poundmaker Cree Nation about 230 kilometers northwest of Saskatoon. “He was nice.”

In the film, Isaiah plays DiCaprio’s son, young Hawk, in the western thriller. As such, he filmed a lot with Leonardo, who won the Oscar for Best Actor at this year’s Academy Awards. ‘The Revenant,’ directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, is about a frontiersman named Hugh Glass in the 1820s who fights to survive after being mauled by a bear and left for dead by members of his hunting team.

Last week, Isaiah and his mother, Rachel Berland, were at Briercrest College and Seminary for Aboriginal Awareness Week.
