As of April 1, the Saskatchewan Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals (Saskatchewan SPCA) will end its partnership with the
provincial government.
As announced on Monday, the current two-year contract with
the agriculture ministry expires on March 31 and the Saskatchewan SPCA has
decided not to renew the contract to enforce The Animal Protection Act, 1999.
“As a charitable organization, the Saskatchewan SPCA is not
the proper body to be enforcing the legislation,” said Constance Roussel,
president of the board of directors with the Saskatchewan SPCA.
