Moose Jaw Times-Herald: Sask. SPCA will not renew enforcement contract

By Lisa Goudy

As of April 1, the Saskatchewan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Saskatchewan SPCA) will end its partnership with the provincial government.

As announced on Monday, the current two-year contract with the agriculture ministry expires on March 31 and the Saskatchewan SPCA has decided not to renew the contract to enforce The Animal Protection Act, 1999.

“As a charitable organization, the Saskatchewan SPCA is not the proper body to be enforcing the legislation,” said Constance Roussel, president of the board of directors with the Saskatchewan SPCA.
