As of April 1, people are going to have to pay 50 per cent more to plug a parking meter.
During Friday’s budget committee meeting, the
committee approved a parking meter rate increase of 50 per cent. For the
meters currently at $0.50 per hour, this change represents a
$0.25-increase per hour to $0.75. For the meters currently at $1 per
hour, it represents a $0.50-increase to $1.50. Council will need to ratify this decision.
“It sounds like a lot, but it’s really a quarter an
hour,” said Mark Sture, acting co-director of engineering services at
the time the report was compiled and transit manager. “(Our rates) are
certainly cheap compared to other centres.”
