As a woman, seeing a female face on a Canadian dollar bill is empowering.
When
Finance Minister Bill Morneau announced that black rights activist
Viola Desmond will be the first Canadian woman on a $10 bill, I was
ecstatic.
A lot of diverse people have contributed greatly to this
country, not just white men who have always been depicted on banknotes.
Desmond will replace Sir John A. Macdonald’s face on the bill. He will
move to a higher value note.
