Moose Jaw Times-Herald: Lisa's Corner: Slowing to stay safe this winter

It's official: We've been spoiled so far this winter.

It's already been more than a week into December. We've been treated with above average temperatures and no lasting snow. (Who would've ever guessed that we'd see above zero temperatures in December?) Just on Wednesday, according to Environment Canada, temperatures rose to 7.9 Celsius. The average for this time of year is around - 5 C.

However, when it started to rain on Wednesday, I had a feeling that it wouldn't end well. I hate rain at this time of year and the conditions we woke up to on Thursday were exactly the reason why. Moose Jaw received 2.9 millimeters of precipitation on Wednesday, which started as rain, turned into freezing rain and morphed into snow.


Thus, we woke up to a less-than-pleasant sight on Thursday. Not only did we have a layer of snow, but also roads and sidewalks were extremely icy. We should be grateful that it did snow or everything would be sheer ice.
